Characteristics of edible glucose:
Colorless or white crystalline powder, odorless, sweet about 70% of sucrose. The relative density was 1.544 (25 C) and the dissolution point was 146 C (decomposition). Soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in ether and aromatic hydrocarbons. When crystallizing in large aqueous solution, it has molecular crystalline water with melting point of 83 C. It has reducibility and dextrorotatory property.
Uses: Pharmaceuticals are used as nutrients, cardiac tonic, diuretic, detoxification and other functions. It can also be used to prepare ascorbic acid, glucuronic acid, calcium gluconate and other raw materials. Syrup, candy and so on are used in food industry. Printing and dyeing industry and leather industry are used as reducing agents.
Medical glucose characteristics:
1. Glucose is mainly used as nutrient for injection (glucose injection) in medicine.
2. Pharmacological effects: It can supplement water and sugar in the body, and has the functions of replenishing body fluids, supplying energy, replenishing blood sugar, strengthening heart and diuresis, detoxifying and so on.
3. Indications: Its 5% solution is isotonic fluid, used for acute poisoning to promote the excretion of poisons; 10%~50% is high solution, used for hypoglycemia, malnutrition, or for the treatment of heart failure, brain edema, pulmonary edema, etc.
4. Glucose as an over-the-counter drug is mainly used for: (1) Oral saline supplement is formulated to regulate body fluids for loss of body fluids caused by sweating, vomiting and diarrhea. (2) Oral administration is used to supplement nutrition for weakness, malnutrition, etc. or for people with hypoglycemia.
2. Functional Governance:
1. Supplementation of heat and body fluids for inadequate food intake or loss of body fluids caused by various causes (such as vomiting, diarrhea, severe injury, massive blood loss, etc.), total intravenous nutrition, hunger ketosis.
2. Hypoglycemia.
3. Hyperkalemia. When combined with insulin, potassium can be transferred into cells.
4. Hypertonic solution can be used as tissue dehydrant for brain edema, pulmonary edema and intraocular pressure reduction. It is often used in combination with mannitol and other dehydrants.
5. Preparing peritoneal dialysate.
3. Adverse reactions:
1. Gastrointestinal reactions, such as nausea and vomiting, occur when the oral concentration is too high or too fast.
2. Reactive hypoglycemia.
